6 Hats - Questioning Techniques
Posted on 19 May 2010 - 10:39 PM
An introduction by Matua Te Karahau about questioning techniques that he learnt at the ICT callback day in April 2010
. Te Karahau – Introduced De Bono’s 6 hats of thinking (originally learnt from Donna Dyet’s breakout at the ICT callback day)
a. Te Karahau provided a handout and explained the six hats
b. He also explained the question matrix – there are seven question starters with 12 different ways to end them
c. There are six different ways to ask the 7x12 questions – ie 504 ways of asking questions
d. Which question and how you ask it will depend on the ‘hat’ you are wearing
e. Te Karahau has begun to use the questioning skills he learnt for his unit on NZ music month
f. Currently he is using mainly white hat thinking
g. There is a junior version of the questioning techniques – an example used is with the Three Billy Goats Gruff
h. The implicit notion in questions is that there will be more deeper, emotive responses and will set the basis on inquiry learning – rich learning
i. Te Karahau stressed that it is important for us to model, model, model!
